JLR is replacing its 2018 EV charging partnership with Plugsurfing, now collaborating with Digital Charging Services (DCS). This grants Jaguar and Land Rover electric and plug-in hybrid drivers access to over one million charging points across Europe via an app or card, enhancing convenience and choice. The transition precedes the launch of the first all-electric Range Rover this year.
JLR also outlined its brand strategy: Jaguar will become an all-electric marque, led by models like the Type 01 GT. Land Rover will offer diverse powertrains, from mild-hybrid to full-electric, with its sub-brands (Range Rover, Defender, Discovery) transitioning away from pure internal combustion engines.
The collaboration between JLR and Plugsurfing began in 2018 and is now being replaced by a new partnership with Digital Charging Services (DCS). JLR emphasises that this change will allow it to offer an EV charging service with access to over one million charging points across Europe. The transition comes ahead of the planned launch of the first all-electric Range Rover later this year.
The new JLR charging service will, however, be available to all drivers of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles with electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains. Access will be provided via the JLR ‘InControl’ app or a branded charging card. DCS already operates charging services for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo.
Mark Camilleri, Director of Charging and Connected Services at JLR, said: “Quality, choice and convenience are critical to the luxury experience we are creating for our electric vehicle clients. Through this new partnership, we are giving clients the power to seamlessly access one of Europe’s most comprehensive charging networks.”
Regarding its product roadmap, JLR remains committed to positioning Jaguar as an all-electric brand. The upcoming Type 01 electric four-door GT will lead this transition. For the Land Rover brand, however, a broader range of powertrain options will remain available. While the sub-brands Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery will no longer include pure internal combustion engine vehicles, they will offer a spectrum ranging from mild and full hybrids to plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles.
The first fully electric models from the Land Rover range will be the aforementioned Range Rover Electric and the Range Rover Sport Electric, both based on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA).
