Bosch eBike Systems has unveiled new products focused on urban e-bikes, spearheaded by its first-ever hub motor, the Hub Line. This lightweight (2.3kg), compact (10cm) motor delivers 45 Nm torque, enabling discreet and agile e-bike designs. Coupled with the new PowerTube 360 battery (2.1kg, 360 Wh), Bosch’s slimmest at 6.8cm diameter, e-bikes become „particularly slim, lightweight, and stylish,“ often blending with conventional bikes. The portfolio also features enhanced theft protection, an LED controller, and the Intuvia 200 display. Bosch aims to revolutionize urban e-biking, offering better integration, security, and smart system advantages for a connected, lighter, and modern riding experience.
Bosch eBike Systems has unveiled several additions to its product portfolio, centred around a new hub motor designed specifically for urban e-bikes. According to the company, the drive unit is lightweight, agile and nearly invisible, enabling manufacturers to develop more discreet e-bike designs. Combined with the new PowerTube 360 battery, the hub motor allows for what Bosch describes as ‘particularly slim, lightweight and stylish eBikes.’
The updated portfolio also includes an enhanced theft protection system, described as the next generation of the Bosch ConnectModule, as well as a compact LED controller and the minimalist Intuvia 200 display. Together, the new components are intended to expand Bosch’s offering for urban e-bike applications while improving integration, security and ease of use.
Bosch eBike Systems has traditionally been associated with powerful mid-drive motors. With the introduction of its first hub motor, the company says it is ‘ushering in a new era for urban e-bikes.’
The new drive unit, called Hub Line, weighs 2.3 kilograms and has a diameter of just 10 centimetres. It delivers 45 Nm of torque and uses an intelligent sensor system to ensure that assistance remains precisely controllable at all times. Once the bicycle exceeds 25 km/h, the motor fully disengages, allowing the rider to continue pedalling with virtually no additional resistance, similar to a conventional bicycle.
The new PowerTube 360 is the slimmest battery in Bosch’s portfolio to date, measuring just 6.8 centimetres in diameter. According to Bosch eBike Systems, its compact design enables such discreet integration into the frame that many e-bikes are barely distinguishable from conventional bicycles at first glance.
The battery weighs 2.1 kilograms and offers a capacity of 360 Wh. Bosch says it is designed to provide ‘reliable energy for daily urban use and ranges of over 50 miles.’ For riders requiring greater range, the system can be expanded using Bosch’s DualBattery technology. Depending on the bike manufacturer’s design concept, the PowerTube 360 can either be removed for charging or remain permanently integrated into the frame.
Claus Fleischer, Managing Director of Bosch eBike Systems, emphasises: “With our new features related to the Hub Line, we are ushering in a new era of urban eBikes. They are not only light and agile and excite with a clear and modern design language, but also revolutionise the riding experience in the city. At the same time, we are making connected eBiking accessible to even more people.” According to Fleischer, e-bikers benefit from all the advantages of the company’s smart system: ‘from the usual Bosch quality and durability to intuitive digital services and reliable support – all from a single source and engineered in Germany.’
