Years ago, I was in a slump over a questionable career and an equally questionable boyfriend when a friend advised me to indulge in some new clothes. “You know, something that makes you feel even more like yourself,” she explained with a knowing nod. I was unconvinced yet curious. So several days later, I swapped out my boring and threadbare yoga bra for a stylish strappy number because it happened to be on sale.
It wasn’t as glam as the heels I’d been coveting and it certainly wasn’t couture. Yet it was a design I wouldn’t ordinarily have purchased for myself since the sale price made the splurge feel less perilous. Surprisingly, each time I wore it, I did feel more like myself—a mix of the forgotten self buried beneath worry and the undiscovered self who was drawn to an entirely different style and, maybe, a different life.
Since then, I regularly snatch up the occasional is-this-my-style yoga bra when it’s on sale. And I can usually find my fix for far less than $50, just as you’ll find with the discounted yet stylish options below from leading names in the yoga fashion industry. And they’re all on sale.
Even the best designs can’t change your circumstances. But sometimes, they can change how you feel as you navigate them. It’s not unlike the sort of change experienced during yoga, which makes it seem all the more fated that these splurges are designed to take you straight to your mat.

“Literally my most favorite bra in the whole world,” gushed one contented online customer. The style works well for those who prefer more up-front coverage yet appreciate sassy criss-cross straps in back. And it’s ideal not just for yoga but layering underneath anything tanks that are sheer or amply loose. Available in classic Black as well as Retro Olive, Saltwater, and a lavender-ish Luminous. 3. prAna Sculpt Adjustable Cami Bra
(Photo: prAna)
Looks like a cami. Fits like a supportive force that can take on any yoga class. The square neckline is not too high and not too low, and the straps are eminently adjustable, natch. One online reviewer deemed the Sculpt “perfect” and was about to purchase her second. We can understand why.
4. Patagonia Maipo Mid-Impact Bra
(Photos: Patagonia)
“The most comfortable sports bra on the planet.” “Sooo comfortable!” “Fits me like a glove.” These online comment clips show that there’s a reason why a more traditionally shaped racerback sports bra has remained a classic. The not-suffocatingly-supportive design includes an underbust band to keep the bra in place and boasts a fashionable keyhole cut toward the bottom of the back. It tends to run large, so size down.
5. Prana Deep Sculpt Bra
(Photos: prAna)
If you practice hot yoga, or you simply practice yoga when it’s hot, you know less fabric means more ease. This scoop-neck bra TK with straps that taper to a strappy T-back. Despite the relative scarcity of coverage, it stays in place during low-impact workouts, such as yoga. Still available in the rich Light Espresso hue. It runs small so size up.
6. REI Co-op Active Pursuits Crop Tank Top
(Photos: REI)
Sometimes you want more coverage. This tank is for those times. Online reviewers rave about the material, which they say is compressive yet moves with, rather than against, you. It’s not super supportive, though, so rely on it for low- to moderate-impact pursuits, whether yoga, hiking, or climbing. It runs snug so consider sizing up. Speaking of sizes, respect for the inclusive sizing, which runs from XS to 3X.
