I love wine, and I will talk about it with anyone who is willing to listen. I’m especially passionate about shopping for wine at the grocery store. Take rosé, for example: Picking out a consistently good grocery store rosé is a trickier task than most. There’s so much variation (dry! Off-dry! Sparkling! Not too sweet! Just fruity enough!), not to mention different palates to cater to.
That said, I was determined to suss out the best bottle you can get at Aldi, my usual wine and cheese stop. I wasn’t about to risk it all by closing my eyes, spinning around, and grabbing the first (or cheapest) bottle I saw. No, what started out as a simple errand morphed into a taste-test of all seven rosés I could find. I brought them all to a picnic and the winner, shockingly enough, revealed itself instantly and won over everyone — varying rosé preferences and all.
The Best Bottle of Rosé You Can Buy at Aldi
The unequivocal winner was Aldi’s Specially Selected Fleurs d’Eau Sparkling Brut Rosé. As I found when I worked at Trader Joe’s, everyone’s got an opinion on what makes an ideal rosé. But I think this bubbly bottle of Aldi’s Specially Selected Fleurs d’Eau Sparkling Brut Rosé is the dictionary definition of a crowd-pleaser (it should come as no surprise that this is another Provençal winner).
It isn’t too light (my usual complaint about rosé is that it can taste a bit watery). Even with its perky and off-dry pucker, potent bubbles, and plenty of tart raspberry on the tongue, it makes for a supremely easy-drinking wine. As someone who typically opts for a rosé with more body (and could never be described as “subtle”), I am a new fan of this more delicate expression of the style. Who knew?
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Specially Selected Fleurs d’Eau Sparkling Brut Rosé?
To be clear, this bottle needs no embellishment. But if you want to double your fun, this sparkling brut rosé plays very well as a stand-in for other bubbles in a French 75 (aka a Lone Ranger) — it’s a poppy, citrusy four-ingredient wonder of a cocktail that combines tequila, sparkling rosé, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Mix some up to kick off your next picnic or keep the post-picnic after-party going strong.
